C’est demain que commence le rallye du Mexique avec les premières recos qui se termineront mercredi. Jeudi matin, le shakedown se déroulera à partir de 8h. Marcus partira pour la première spéciale Vendredi à 9h37 (16h37 pour nous). Le site du rallye propose ses cartes, mais on préférera utiliser celles de Criterium. L’année dernière c’est Petter qui l’avait emporté devant Marcus. Seulement 14 WRCs engagées :

Les pilotes au sujet du rallye avant la course :
Sébastien Loeb : « Il ne m’a pas réussi jusqu’ici, c’est clair ! Pourtant, il figure dans le haut de mon classement personnel. Les spéciales ne sont pas trop étroites, et j’aime cette caractéristique qui laisse le choix de la trajectoire. Elles sont variées, tantôt rapides, tantôt techniques.» « En 2004, comme en 2005, la Xsara a toujours été performante au Mexique. J’espère que ce sera de nouveau le cas, et que cela nous permettra de nous battre pour la victoire. Ce serait encore la meilleure façon d’atteindre ce qui est forcément notre objectif numéro un : ne pas laisser Marcus s’enfuir au championnat… »
Marcus Grönholm : « Sebastien Loeb, who is our closest rival in the championship, starts only one car behind us so he won’t have much of an advantage if there is loose gravel. But Petter Solberg could benefit a lot because he will start well down the order. It will only affect us for three stages on Friday morning because the afternoon stages are repeats.» « Mexico is quite a normal gravel rally. It’s not particularly technical but has a good combination of fast and slower sections. The stages are held on a good surface, which is quite smooth, but cars tend to pick up quite a bit of damage and I’m not sure why. Maybe it’s a combination of high speeds and stones coming through the surface during the second run over roads.»
Petter Solberg: « Well, we’ll try again in Mexico! We’ll try very hard to get some points by finishing on the podium, but winning is the goal. I hope everything will be in good shape – the car, the tyres and me. We’ve got a good starting position and I hope we can go well on all three days. The team is very confident and we had a good test in Sardinia. There’s so much more to come from us.»
Le temps sera au beau et chaud (parfois plus de 30°C) les spéciales sont montagneuses avec un point culminant à 2737 m ! Dans ces conditions BF Goodrich a conseillé les équipes qui ont fait leur choix le 17 janvier dernier :
g-Force Gravel 9 : gomme moyenne (températures entre 15° – 25°C, utilisée lors des 1er passages)
g-Force Gravel 9+ : gomme dure (sols durs et/ou températures élevées, utilisée lors des 2e tours)
